Dr. Stéphan Schaub holds degrees in percussion performance (B.A.), music composition (B.A.) and mathematics (M.Sc.) from the University of Arizona (USA); a degree in musicology (DEA) from the Ecole des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (France), and he earned his PhD in musicology at the Université Paris IV Sorbonne (France) in collaboration with the Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique Musique (IRCAM, France). The foundations of his research grew out of an interest in the implication of mathematical thinking in compositional processes and in the analysis of nontonal music composed after WWII. Starting from in-depth studies on the musical and theoretical outputs of composers Iannis Xenakis and Milton Babbitt, his research now encompasses a large reperto
